The War Games

When The Doctor, Jamie and Zoe arrive on Earth they find themselves caught up in the terrifying events of World War 1, but new and unexpected horrors await them as they cross landscapes full of enemies and time zones confounded by centuries of wars. At the centre of the mystery stand the Aliens who have captured soldiers from different periods of Earth's history and brainwashed them into fighting each other. When the Doctor learns the terrible purpose of the War Games he has one chance to defeat the Aliens and end the Games.........but to take it means risking recapture by his own people, the all-powerful Timelords who are waiting to bring him to trial and who are capable of ending his very existence.....

This is, in my opinion, an outright classic Doctor Who story. Tense and fast-paced, despite its 10 episode length, it is a well acted and directed piece of television. Noticeable high points are the trial of the Doctor, and the sinister Philip Madoc as the War Lord. Noticeable low points are the Roman Horde(tte) and the silly glasses that are worn by the acolytes of the War Lords.
Just a comment. The story synopsis above is directly copied from the video sleeve. This is a ten episode story, and that blurb gives away the entire first nine episodes. Good huh?
